Dollar Tree – Many PA locations. Believe it or not, this discount chain has begun to offer some vegan and organic foods. We recommend trying Just Mayo, sold for just $1.

Echo Hill Country Store – Fleetwood, PA. Bulk foods and some frozen items. Good prices and accepts SNAP (food stamps).

Giant Food Stores – Many PA locations. Most stores have a natural section which includes various vegan items, including household products and toiletries. Selection varies by location.

Kimberton Whole Foods – Douglassville, Kimberton, Downingtown, and Ottsville, PA.  Specializes in local foods. Not affiliated with the Whole Foods grocery store chain.

Lbs. & Ozs. – Muhlenberg Twp., PA. Located in the Fairgrounds Farmers Market. Carries bulk items, coffee, and spices.

Redner’s Warehouse Markets – Many PA locations. Each location has a different selection, but most carry tofu, tempeh, and Tofurkey products. Employee-owned.

Clothing and Household Items

The most ecological and animal-friendly way to shop is to purchase used items. It also prevents the funding of sweatshops, including those that employ children. And it usually costs less.

Antique stores, thrift shops, flea markets, and yard sales are all excellent sources of usable items. And don’t forget Freecycle and craigslist. Watch the newspaper and Merchandiser for auction listings, if you are searching for larger items like furniture.

City Thrift Shop – Reading, PA. Good selection of clothing at low prices. Frequent sales. Wonderful people who do great things for the community.

ReStore of Berks County – Temple, PA. Large selection of furniture and building supplies. Owned by Habitat for Humanity of Berks County. Proceeds go to building homes for low income individuals in the area.
